Memory fades. Thinking becomes less sharp. Cognitive decline seems unavoidable. But new research is challenging that narrative. A large three-year study involving nearly 4,000 adults aged 19 to 94 suggests that brain health can continue improving throughout life, even well to our 80s and 90s. The findings offer encouraging evidence that the brain remains adaptable and capable of growth far longer than previously believed. Researchers from The University of Texas at Dallas followed 3,966 adults as part of the BrainHealth Project, one of the largest long-term initiatives focused on understanding and improving brain health. Participants completed simple brain-training activities requiring only five to fifteen minutes per day. Over time, researchers observed measurable improvements in several aspects of brain health across all age groups. Importantly, positive changes were not limited to younger adults. Even participants in their 80s and 90s showed meaningful gains. The study evaluated brain health using a comprehensive assessment that measured multiple dimensions of cognitive and emotional functioning.
