Olive Oil Nanofibres Accelerate Healing of Diabetic Wounds Chronic diabetic wounds remain among the most difficult complications to manage clinically. Persistent inflammation, oxidative stress and recurrent infection frequently stall healing, often progressing toward ulceration and, in severe cases, amputation. New research presented in the Journal of Drug Delivery Science and Technology describes a novel wound dressing designed to address several of these obstacles simultaneously. A team from Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology, working with the Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education and A.V.V.M. Sri Pushpam College, created a multifunctional nanofibre dressing combining extra-virgin olive oil polyphenols with carbon quantum dots in a nanoemulsion. This formulation was then embedded within electrospun polycaprolactone nanofibres, a biodegradable polymer scaffold. The resulting material was engineered to perform three functions at once at the wound site: provide antioxidant protection, suppress bacterial growth, and support tissue regeneration.
