    High Dose Vitamin D Did Not Improve Outcomes in Metastatic Colorectal Cancer, Major Trial Finds Earlier research had suggested that higher vitamin D levels might improve survival in cancer patients, raising real hope that adding high dose vitamin D3 to standard chemotherapy could meaningfully benefit patients with metastatic colorectal cancer, a condition with historically limited treatment options and poor outcomes. A large phase 3 trial published in JAMA now provides a clear, rigorously tested answer. The trial: The SOLARIS trial, conducted across 151 academic and community centres in the United States, enrolled 455 adults with previously untreated, unresectable metastatic colorectal cancer. Patients were randomly assigned in a double blind design to receive either high dose vitamin D3, 8,000 IU daily as a loading dose followed by 4,000 IU daily, or standard dose vitamin D3 at 400 IU daily.
