Experimental Human Antibody Shows Promise Against Aggressive Prostate Cancer While many prostate cancers grow slowly and remain confined to the prostate, some develop into aggressive disease that spreads to the lymph nodes, bones, and other organs. Once metastasis occurs, treatment becomes significantly more challenging. Researchers at Umeå University have developed a fully human monoclonal antibody that, in preclinical studies, slowed tumor growth and prevented the spread of aggressive prostate cancer. The findings were published in Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy. Researchers developed a fully human antibody designed to target a signaling pathway involved in aggressive prostate cancer progression. In preclinical laboratory studies, the antibody: Inhibited the growth of aggressive prostate tumors. Reduced metastatic spread. Blocked a newly identified cancer-promoting mechanism involved in disease progression.
