Researchers at Baylor College of Medicine have found that tubulin, a protein responsible for building the cell's internal transport network, may help prevent harmful protein clumps that are commonly linked to neurodegenerative diseases. The findings, published in Nature Communications, offer a fresh perspective on how brain cells might naturally defend themselves against damage. Two proteins, Tau and alpha-synuclein, are frequently associated with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. Under healthy conditions, these proteins play important roles inside neurons.
