Can Semaglutide Slow Biological Aging? What a New Study Suggests Semaglutide, the active ingredient in Ozempic, Wegovy, and Rybelsus, is widely known for its role in weight loss, diabetes management, and cardiovascular risk reduction. A new study now suggests that it may also influence some biological markers linked to aging. The study, published in Nature Communications, provides early randomized, placebo-controlled evidence that semaglutide may slow certain epigenetic markers of biological aging in adults living with HIV-associated lipohypertrophy, a condition where excess fat accumulates around the abdomen. Researchers from the University of California San Diego and collaborating institutions analyzed data from a clinical trial involving 108 adults with HIV. About half received weekly semaglutide injections, while the others received placebo. To study biological aging, the researchers used epigenetic clocks. These tools estimate biological age by measuring DNA methylation, chemical changes that affect how genes are regul
